Last night I found a video about a girl who looked different to others, and I said to myself "this might be interesting".This is the story of a girl who dared to live.Read it and think.Really touching.
"ok when i was like a year old i was diagnosed with cancer it formed behind my right eye and they called it rabdomyosarcoma i first went through chemo with little luck, came near death a few times i became so ill, until we tried radiation, which i took to immediately and at the age of 2 i was cured of my cancer...however there were some drawbacks, i became blind in my right eye, deaf in my right ear, and am missing most of my teath on the right side (pretty much all my defects follow the path of the radiation) also the chemo, meds, and radiation caused the right side of my face to grow slower than the left, so by kindergarden i had a lopsided face, it was something i had to live with and i was going to make the best of it even though i had no friends to support me (till the first grade, i went to pre-school and 2yrs of kindergarden) we went to many doctors in kansas city trying to find someone who could help me...to no avail, until i was 14 then we found this amazing doctor online, dr.salyer and he took me over right away (he has since retired and another dr has taken over) i've been through 20-30 surgeries mainly because after my first major surgery i got infected twice, and that alone caused drawbacks (but i'm not getting into that thats about 3yrs worth of surgeries) just to give you a few ideas of things i've had done, i've had bone implanted into my right cheek, fat taken from my stomach and added to the right cheek as well
i've had 3 skin grafts, and have 10 scars, the most recent surgery i've had they added another cheek bone, more fat, and in order for me to open my jaw wider (i can only open it about 15 mm when a normal person can open it about 25-30mm) they cut one of my jaw muscles to release some of the tension and its helped! a bit and more fat to the right cheek and now i have more symmetry than i've ever had, i've been going through craniofacial reconstruction surgeries (w/4-5 month breaks, and a yr of rest from 1 to another surgerie) for about five years now since feb of 06 its been a crazy rollercoaster ride ever since but i've got a great support system, awesome friends, and plenty of inspiration to make it through"
